London: To visit the Queen!
24-27 May
London
ENGLAND
Using our annual tickets, Adette and I went to London, with the plan to just wander around the city and watch the musical, Wicked. We went to the airport with just our backpacks, tickets, and room reservations. Around 7 hours later, we were queuing at the Gatwick airport.
The immigration officer questioned me about how long and where I'd be staying, and asked proof of what I was saying. That was when I realized that I forgot the printouts of all my e-tickets and reservation receipts! Stupid, stupid, stupid. I knew then the meaning of the word panic. I was about to faint when I cried out to Adette (who already got her passport stamped!) for help and told her that I forgot everything. The immigration officer probably heard some honest panic in my voice so she just asked if Adette and I were traveling together and seeing that Adette already passed the 'test', she stamped my passport. Whew!
We bought the more expensive Gatwick Express tickets, the supposedly faster way to Heathrow, but mistakenly stepped on the other not-so-fast train so that the premium we paid for a faster train went down the drain.
In Heathrow, we bought the Big Bus Tour ticket for the purpose of going around the city, as well as for having a free ride to where we were staying. Yeeha! Upon putting our bags on our beds, we went out and started our tour of the city. We watched Wicked on our first night (Adette fell asleep! Boo!) and Les Miserables on the second night. ;)
Pictures are here and here.
